Nearly Done

Here we are again! A lot has happened since my last photo set. We sold our home in only 8 days. That was the good new. The bad news was we did not have a place to stay! Through the generosity of  fellow Corvette Club members Lew and Phyllis Hoy, we rented their home in town for a few months as they went to Florida. THANK YOU BOTH!!! Unfortunately, the Corvette went back into storage and was not worked on for many months. My priority was to find the ideal home, a one bedroom house with a five car garage. At least that was my thoughts.  Once we found a house and moved  in, it was time to start working on the car. As you will see, I have now put on all the finishing touches and driven the car for nearly 1,200 miles! What a kick!!   I hope you have enjoyed reading this story as much as I enjoyed bringing it to you. And as always, remember the “Wave” and don’t forget to drive your Corvette as often as possible!

Now it is time to mount the original chrome bumpers. It is amazing how easy they mounted (Ha Ha). It only took some drilling, filling, mounting, measuring, remounting …….. Well, you get the idea. After two days, the rear bumpers were on and straight. Now for the front!!
Here are my nephews Tony and Andrew. After they have helped me work on this car over the past few years they are now putting on the first coat of wax. Oh, by the way, I am now their most favorite uncle, especially IF I will them in the car!
Can you believe I drove the car around this way? Well I did! Remember I said the car has a  411:1 ratio rear end? Well, without any soundproofing or carpet in place, it was LOUD!
Wow! Isn’t it amazing how well the engine and engine compartment look? And it runs, as good as it looks! Changing the distributor/points system, to a small electronic module really made a difference.  When you put the pedal to the metal, this car really flies! Just when you think you are going fast, the Rochester 4 barrel carburetor kicks in and really pushes you back in the seats!! With a forged/cross-drilled crank, forged Dot rods, Forged domed pistons, and a Crane Crank, this car should produce 421 HP! What a kick!!
Finally got the seats, soundproofing and the carpets installed. Sometimes if you look at something long enough, it fits. That was the case with the carpeting pieces.  It was not as obvious as you may think.
